Bowls Report for June 2013

The outdoor season has just got going now, and finally a couple of wins have come our way.

The men have progressed past Bottisham to the quarter finals of the league KO Cup. There are now many matches to be played in a short period of time, so let us hope there is good news to report in the next edition. It is with great pleasure to advise that Darren Dunbavin has been awarded a junior international trial match for England. He is one of three Cambridgeshire boys to be selected for a match involving 48 of the country’s top under 25’s junior bowlers. We wish him well and at 17 years old, has great chances to become an England international.

Whilst talking of international players, we are really pleased to advise that since moving into the village last year, Ellen Falkner has joined our club to participate in some ladies matches. We also wish her well for any international duties she undertakes in 2013.

The carpet bowls season has now concluded and in the East Cambs League, Team A became champions of division 2 and Team B finished second in division 3, therefore both promoted to a higher division for the 2013/14 season.

In the club competitions the winners were:

Singles  Winner Peter Doe Runner-Up Doreen Raven

Pairs      Winners Kris Dunbavin & Robert Burling

Runners-Up  Denny Raven & Barry Grimwood

Triples League Winners Heather Munns, Diane Burling & Mark Dunbavin

Fours Winners Ann Cant, Denny Raven, Sheila King & Robert Burling

Runners-Up June Watts, Dave Thompson, Mark Dunbavin & Darren Dunbavin

Just a quick footnote to advise that the Bowls Club facilities are NOT available for hire during the bowling season, which covers the period 1st May to mid-September.
