Hello everyone.
Well March has lived up to the old addage of “in like a lion & out like a lamb”.This is where the gardener has to decide if he or she can trust the weather and start sowing some early seeds in the hope that new emerging plants will not be ruined by late frosts.Early peas & carrots are fine of coarse and broad beans should now be well in evidence.I`m itching to put my potatoes in but I`ll resist the temptation for another week, they`re growing just as well in the chitting trays as they would underground until the soil gets nice & warm. The greenhouse is full of tomato plants, cucumbers, sweetcorn and courgettes and I`m struggling to find room for new sowings of peppers and dwarf beans.
The green manure I sowed last Autumn is now paying dividends as I have a lovely carpet of clover to dig in to add humus and enrich my soil and I`m hoping to improve the moisture retention if we have another dry summer.
I understand some of you are having difficulty posting comments.I`m afraid I can`t help you but sugest you contact Clive Patterson.

First blog of 2012
Hi everyone, I hope you have all survived the bit of real winter that we`ve just had.At least it should give our poor overworked perrenial plants a rest and a chance to recoup some energy to produce another display of blooms in the coming year.
I suppose quite a few of us will be preparing ground on our allotments and gardens ready for sowing early crops,eg.carrots, early peas, broad beans etc.All these will benefit from a little help if we have another cold snap.Horticultural fleece, some loose straw or leaves, old hesian sacks even old net curtains would do to cover newly emerging shoots.
I`ve just bought in my seed potatoes and will be setting them out to chit this week to have them ready for planting at the begining of April.
Tomatoes and cucumbers have just been sown in the greenhouse under heat so I`m hoping for some warmer days to cut down on my heating costs.
If you have any questions or any tips to add to the blog I would be pleased to hear from you.
